Kitchen display systems for restaurants and bars

A ticket printer puts paper on a rail. A kitchen display puts the order on a screen, in the order it arrived, from wherever it was taken — the counter, the phone, the table or the web. BizTracker builds kitchen display into the LINGA systems it specifies, installs, trains and supports.

Remote setup and training nationwide. Onsite service across Tampa Bay.

What does a kitchen display system do?

It shows the kitchen what has been ordered, from every channel, on a screen instead of on paper. Orders arrive as they were entered, stay in the order they arrived, and are cleared when they are made. For restaurants and bars, as for the rest of hospitality, BizTracker uses LINGA rather than the Infinity retail platform.

The case for it is not speed, it is the paper itself: a printed ticket can be lost, reprinted, stuck behind another one or left on the pass, and none of that is visible to anybody on the other side of the wall.

  • Every channel on one screenDine-in, takeout, phone and web orders reach the same kitchen.
  • Orders in the order they arrivedA rail sorts by whoever reached it last.
  • Modifiers as they were enteredA kitchen should not be decoding a print-out.
  • One team for setup, training and supportThe same model as BizTracker’s retail systems.

What a display shows, where the screens go and how orders route between them depends on the kitchen, and is worth seeing set up for your own menu before you choose any system.

What kitchens bring us

  • Tickets are lost or reprinted until nobody trusts the rail

The same order is made twice, or not at all.

The order is on a screen, from the moment it is taken until somebody clears it.

    Restaurant POS
  • Online and phone orders arrive separately

Somebody re-keys them during service, which is when mistakes happen.

Orders from every channel reach the same kitchen display as they were entered.

    Online ordering
  • The front of house cannot see where an order is

Every enquiry is a walk to the kitchen.

Order state is visible on the system rather than only on the pass.

    Restaurant POS
  • Modifiers are unreadable by the time they print

The plate goes out wrong and comes back.

Modifiers are shown as they were entered, not compressed into a receipt line.

What to make a kitchen display demonstrate

Ask for it on your own menu, at the pace a real service runs. These are the things that decide whether a kitchen screen helps or gets ignored.

  • An order from each channel

Ask to see a dine-in order, a phone order and a web order all reach the same screen.

    Online ordering
  • A complicated modifier

Ask to see your most awkward item, built as a customer would order it, as the kitchen sees it.

    Restaurant POS
  • Clearing an order

Ask to see what the kitchen does when a dish is made, and what the front of house sees afterwards.

    Restaurant POS
  • A change after the order is in

Ask to see an order changed or cancelled after the kitchen has it, which is where paper fails hardest.

    Restaurant POS
  • More than one screen

If the kitchen has stations, ask to see how orders route between them.

Kitchen display questions

Does this replace the kitchen printer?

It can, and many kitchens keep a printer as a fallback. What suits yours is part of the specification rather than a standard answer.

Will it make service faster?

It removes a class of problem — lost tickets, reprints, unreadable modifiers — rather than speeding up cooking. We will not promise you a ticket time, because nobody can honestly promise one from outside your kitchen.

Do online orders reach it?

Yes, where online ordering is part of the same system. That is the point of doing both in one platform. Ask to see a web order arrive in the demo.

Can we have more than one screen?

Kitchens with stations usually do, and how orders route between them is set up for your kitchen. Ask to see the routing in the demo.

What happens if a screen fails?

That is a continuity question and it is worth answering before it happens. What your setup falls back to is part of a failover plan.

Is this the same platform as your retail systems?

No. Retail runs on Infinity; restaurants, bars and kitchens run on LINGA. Which applies is settled before anything is specified.

See it on your own menu

Tell us how the kitchen is laid out and which channels you take orders from, and ask for the demo on your own menu.
