Liquor
POS systems for liquor and bottle shops
Bottles, packs and cases, margin that varies line by line, supplier cost changes, and age verification that has to happen every time. BizTracker specifies, sets up and supports liquor store systems on Infinity.
Remote setup and training nationwide. Onsite service across Tampa Bay.
What is the best POS software for a liquor store?
A liquor POS has to keep bottles, packs and cases straight in inventory, show margin per line rather than per store, carry supplier cost changes through to the shelf price, and apply configured customer-age restrictions to controlled items. BizTracker configures Infinity for the register and the back office, checks how the shop’s bottles, packs and cases will be set up before any stock is counted in, converts the item file, and trains the staff.
The distinguishing problem in liquor is unit conversion. A case that breaks into bottles is one product in two shapes, and a system that treats them as separate SKUs quietly loses the inventory.
- Bottles, packs and cases kept straightA case sold as bottles still has to count correctly.
- Margin per lineLiquor margin varies enormously between adjacent products.
- Cost changes carried to the shelfA new supplier cost that never reaches the tag is margin lost quietly.
- Age verification at the registerEvery sale, not the ones staff remember.
- Deep, slow-moving catalogWine and spirits carry long tails that still have to be findable.
State-level reporting requirements vary; we confirm what a specific state expects rather than claiming coverage. Configured age restrictions support staff; they do not replace checking ID.
What liquor retailers bring us
-
Breaking a case loses the inventory count
The system says cases and the shelf holds bottles.
How bottles, packs and cases will be set up is checked against Infinity before quoting, rather than assumed.
Item file setup -
Nobody knows which lines actually carry margin
Shelf space goes to volume rather than to profit.
Margin reporting per line rather than a store total.
Reporting -
Age checks depend on who is on the till
One miss is a license problem.
Customer-age restrictions configured on controlled items.
Age-restricted sales -
Supplier cost changes never reach the shelf
The register keeps selling at last month’s margin until somebody reads the invoice.
Cost captured at receiving, and shelf tags printed from the item file when the price moves.
Purchase orders -
Voids, discounts and overrides go unchecked
Margin leaks one exception at a time, and the total never says where.
Permissions decide who may void, discount or override, and each action carries the employee who took it.

What a liquor configuration includes
Receiving and supplier costs
Purchase ordersDeliveries received against the order, with cost captured at receipt.
Margin per line
ReportingReporting at the level liquor is actually managed.
Age verification
Age-restricted salesCustomer-age restrictions on controlled products, with operator/supervisor age authorization available when configured.
Shelf tags and price changes
Label printingTags printed from the item file when a cost or a price changes.
The counter
The liquor store counter
A bottle shop counter scans bottles, packs and cases and checks ID all day, and every device is chosen and checked around that.
A checkout station per register
Hardware for InfinityA register, a scanner that reads bottles, packs and cases where they are actually handed across, a receipt printer and a cash drawer.
Shelf tags that follow the cost
Label printersA label printer for shelf tags, so a supplier cost change and the price that follows it reach the shelf together.
Card payments at the register
Merchant processingFor an Infinity system, card processing runs through one of two paths, Bold or Hybrid, chosen from a current statement rather than from a headline rate.
Counting bottles on the floor
Portable data collectorsA portable data collector for stock counts and receiving, so a count corrects the bottle-level file instead of a spreadsheet.
Before you buy
What to make a liquor POS demonstrate
Ask to see these with the kinds of bottles, packs and cases your shop sells. A demo that only rings single bottles has not shown the part that goes wrong.
A case received, then sold as bottles
Inventory managementAsk to see a case arrive on a purchase order and go out as bottles and a pack at the register, then check the bottle count and the margin afterwards.
A supplier cost change
Label printingA new cost captured at receiving, the selling price reviewed, and the shelf tag printed from the same record.
An age-restricted liquor sale
Age-restricted salesAsk to see the customer-age rule on a controlled liquor item and, where operator-age validation is enabled, how supervisor authorization works for a staff member who is too young to sell it.
A void, a discount and an override
Cash managementWho is allowed to do each one, which of them needs a manager, and where each one shows up afterwards.
Margin by line and department
ReportingThe report that shows which lines actually earn their shelf space, and the transactions behind it.
Going live
What getting a liquor store live involves
The unit relationships have to be right before any stock is counted in, so the order the work happens in matters as much as the work.
Product conversion and cleanup
Data conversionUPCs, sizes, departments, vendors and costs converted from what the current system exports, with duplicates and missing costs flagged and resolved with the store before go-live.
Bottle, pack and case review
Item file setupHow the shop’s bottles, packs and cases will be set up is agreed and checked before inventory quantities are loaded, because a wrong setup corrupts the count from the first sale.
Payments and hardware together
Start with a statement reviewBold or Hybrid processing, scanners, printers and drawers set up and tested as one register rather than as separate boxes.
Cashier and receiver training
Installation and trainingCashiers, receivers and managers trained on their own tasks before go-live, remotely anywhere in the country or onsite across Tampa Bay.
Liquor POS questions
What should I ask to see about bottles and cases?
A case received on a purchase order and sold as bottles, followed by a count. It is the first thing to get right in liquor, so it belongs in any demo, and we check how your bottles, packs and cases will be set up in Infinity before quoting rather than assuming it fits.
How does Infinity handle age-restricted liquor items?
Infinity can store customer-age restrictions on controlled items. Its Age Restricted Selling setting can also validate the logged-in operator and require supervisor authorization when the operator is too young. These controls support staff; they do not replace checking ID.
How does a supplier cost change reach the shelf?
Through the item file. The new cost is captured when the delivery is received, the price is reviewed, and the shelf tag prints from the same record the register rings from.
Can I stop staff discounting or voiding sales?
Yes. Voids, discounts and overrides are permissions, so who may do each one, and which of them need a manager, is set with the owner rather than left to whoever is on the till.
Does it handle state reporting?
Requirements vary by state, so this needs a specific answer rather than a general one. Tell us the state and we will confirm what applies.
See your liquor store workflows demonstrated
Tell us what the shop sells and which cases, packs and cost changes cause trouble, and ask to see those workflows at the register and in the back room.
