Shop by printer type
Start from how you print and connect. These cards are guidance: the product grid below is the full range.
-
Thermal Receipt Printers
Print on heat-sensitive paper, so there is no ink or ribbon to replace. The usual starting point for retail and front-counter receipts.
Compare printer types -
Impact / Kitchen Printers
Strike the paper through an inked ribbon, and can print on multi-part paper. Often considered where heat, steam or grease rule out thermal paper.
Compare printer types -
USB Printers
A direct cable to one POS computer. Confirm that your POS software supports the printer and a USB connection before you order.
Browse all printers -
Ethernet / Network Printers
Connect over the network, so a printer can be shared or sit away from the terminal, for example in a kitchen. Confirm your POS can print to a network printer.
Browse all printers -
Bluetooth & Wireless
Wireless connections for tablets, phones and mobile counters. Confirm which wireless interface your POS device and app support.
Ask which fits -
Mobile Receipt Printers
Compact, portable printers for line busting, tableside, delivery and field work. Check how long a shift runs and how the printer is charged.

High-Volume Checkout
For lanes that print all day, look at print speed in your busiest hour, how much paper a roll holds and how quickly a roll is changed.

Not sure which printer you need?
Tell us your POS system, current printer model and connection—USB, Ethernet, Serial, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi—and we’ll help identify the correct replacement.
Shop by application
Where the printer will work changes what matters most.
-
Retail Checkout
A printer that your register and POS software support, usually one per lane. It often drives the cash drawer too, so the two are chosen together.
-
Grocery & Convenience
Frequent receipts over long shifts. Think about print speed, how much paper a roll holds and how easily staff can reload.
-
Liquor Stores
Busy counters, often with several lanes. Using the same model on every lane keeps paper and support simple.
-
Restaurant Front Counter
Customer receipts at the counter, often alongside separate kitchen printing. Confirm your POS supports the connection you plan to use.
-
Kitchen Printing
Heat, steam and grease are part of the choice. A network connection lets the printer sit in the kitchen, away from the register.
-
Mobile POS
Tablets, phones and handhelds need a wireless or portable printer. Confirm which interface your device supports.
-
Online Ordering
Online and delivery orders often print at the counter or the kitchen. Check that your ordering platform supports your printer and its connection.
-
High-Volume Checkout
Lanes that print without a break. Plan for the busiest hour, keep spare paper at hand and choose a printer that is quick to reload.
Which receipt printer should I buy?
The main differences between the types you will see below.
| Type | How it works | Typically used for | Confirm first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal | Prints on heat-sensitive paper. No ink or ribbon. | Retail checkout, front counters, grocery, liquor and convenience. | Paper width, interface, driver and POS support. |
| Impact | Strikes the paper through an inked ribbon, and can print on multi-part paper. | Kitchens and other places where heat, steam or grease make thermal paper a poor fit. | Ribbon supply, noise at the station, interface and POS support. |
| Mobile | Compact and portable, and usually battery powered. | Line busting, tableside, delivery and field service. | The wireless interface your device supports, charging, and paper size. |
| Network / cloud-connected | Connects over Ethernet or Wi-Fi, so it can be shared or placed away from the terminal. Some models can print orders sent from online ordering services. | Kitchens, shared counters and online-order printing. | Whether your POS or ordering service supports that exact model, and how it is set up on your network. |
Confirm before you buy
- Interface: USB, Ethernet, Serial, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
- Driver or software support for your POS
- Command language the POS software sends
- Cash-drawer support, if the printer should open the drawer
- POS compatibility for the exact model
Interface, driver, command language, cash-drawer support and POS compatibility should be confirmed before purchase. If you are unsure, ask us first.
Choose the right receipt printer
- Thermal receipt printers: fast, quiet checkout printing for most retail and front-counter applications.
- Impact / kitchen printers: useful where heat, grease or multi-part paper makes thermal printing a poor fit.
- Network printers: Ethernet and Wi-Fi models for shared counters, kitchens and flexible installations.
- Mobile printers: portable receipt and label printing for line busting, delivery, warehouse and field workflows.
Compatibility matters. A printer can be mechanically excellent and still be wrong for your POS because of its interface, driver, command language, cash-drawer port or software support. BizTracker can help confirm the correct model and connection before you order.

Receipt printer questions
What receipt printer works with my POS system?
It depends on the specific printer model and your POS software, not on the category. Check the connection your POS uses (USB, Ethernet, Serial, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi), the driver or command language the software expects, cash-drawer support, and whether your POS vendor supports that model. Send us your POS system and current printer and we will help confirm before you order.
What is the difference between thermal and impact receipt printers?
Thermal printers print on heat-sensitive paper, so there is no ink or ribbon. Impact printers strike the paper through an inked ribbon and can print on multi-part paper. Thermal is common at retail counters; impact printers are often considered for kitchens where heat, steam or grease are a concern.
Can I replace an older Epson or Star printer with a newer model?
Often a newer model can do the same job, but it is not automatic. The interface, the command language or emulation the POS software uses, the driver and the cash-drawer connection all need to suit your system. Tell us the model you have and how it connects, and we will help identify a replacement.
Do USB and Ethernet versions of the same printer work the same way?
They print the same way but connect differently. USB goes directly to one computer; Ethernet connects over a network. Setup and drivers can differ, and your POS has to support the connection you choose, so check the exact model and interface in the product listing rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
Can a receipt printer open a cash drawer?
Many POS receipt printers have a connector that signals a compatible cash drawer. Whether it works depends on the printer, the drawer and the POS software sending the signal, so confirm drawer support for the exact model. We can help match a printer and a drawer.
Which printers suit kitchens?
It depends on the kitchen. Impact printers are widely used where heat, steam or grease are a concern, thermal printers suit cleaner areas, and a network connection lets the printer sit away from the register. Confirm that your POS or ordering platform supports kitchen printing on the model you choose.
